Optoma UHD35x: what it gives up
- A 240 W lamp rated 4,000 hours — the light source is a recurring purchase
- Only a 1.1x zoom and no lens shift, so placement is close to fixed
- HDMI 2.0 caps 4K at 60 Hz; the 240 Hz path is 1080p only
- No streaming and no smart platform of any kind
- It uses an RGBW colour wheel with a white segment, which lifts the white-lumen figure without lifting colour brightness
Optoma UHD38x: what it gives up
- Lamp-based at 4,000 hours, so the running cost never goes away
- 1.1x zoom and no lens shift
- 4K is limited to 60 Hz by HDMI 2.0
- The extra 400 lumens over the UHD35x is a small return for the price difference
- Keystone and trapezoid correction are unavailable in game mode, which on a projector with no lens shift leaves an off-centre install uncorrectable while gaming
