BenQ X3100i: what it gives up
- HDMI 2.0 caps 4K at 60 Hz; the headline 240 Hz is 1080p only
- ±10% vertical shift is much less than the HT4550i it shares a chassis with
- 15 lb makes it awkward to move between a shelf and a mount
- No Dolby Vision or HDR10+, only static HDR10
- Contrast is the weak point: it is a bright projector that is not optimised for black level, and 3LCD rivals at the price look better on dark material
BenQ TK710STi: what it gives up
- No lens shift and only a 1.2x zoom, so placement is close to fixed
- HDMI 2.0 caps 4K at 60 Hz
- A single 5 W speaker — a soundbar is not optional
- $2,199 is $200 more than the brighter, larger X3100i
- Its standard-throw sibling costs less and is the better buy for any room that can take the longer distance
